Hello guys!! 🙂
So, as most of you will know, this weekend is Easter! I know some people don’t celebrate it, but I just thought that I would research some things and find out why bunnies, eggs and more are related to Easter!
For Catholics, Easter is in celebration the resurrection of Christ. But then why do chickens, bunnies, hot cross buns and chocolate eggs come in to it?
Hot Cross Buns
It is traditional to eat warm hot cross buns on Good Friday. Hot Cross Buns with their combination of spicy, sweet and fruity flavours have long been an Easter tradition, with the pastry cross on top of the buns symbolising and reminding Christians of the cross that Jesus was killed on.
Rabbits have been associated with springtime since ancient times. It is believed that the Anglo-Saxon Goddess of Spring, Eostre had a hare as her companion. The hare symbolises fertility and rebirth. Later Christians changed the symbol of the hare to the Easter bunny.
The egg, an ancient symbol of new life, has been associated with pagan festivals celebrating spring. From a Christian perspective, Easter eggs are said to represent Jesus’ emergence from the tomb and resurrection.
Chicks are an Easter icon because they represent new life. When Jesus was Crucified on the cross, he rose again and so the baby chicken is also representing that.
So I hope you guys have learnt a little bit about Easter and if you celebrate it, I hope you have an amazing weekend and get heaps of chocolate!! haha! 🙂 😀
